Noble Kelly

Noble Kelly has been an educator in BC since 1991 and has been advocating for LGBTQ rights, resources and support in education, both nationally and provincially, for over 15 years. He has also been active as a member of the BCTF Committee for Action on Social Justice on both the LGBTQ and Global Ed action groups developing resources and providing workshops for teachers. He also founded and now runs Education Beyond Borders.

Hélène Frohard-Dourlent

Hélène Frohard-Dourlent is a graduate student at the University of British Columbia. Her work focuses on gender, sexuality and schooling; she has also been volunteering with anti-homophobia initiatives since she was 19. She loves the opportunity that PEN creates for people dedicated to more LGBTQ-friendly school climates to come together, share their expertise, and make a difference in our community.

Shantel Ivits

Shantel Ivits gained an interest in LGBT issues during her undergraduate degree at Trent University. She has since studied anti-oppressive education at the graduate level and earned a B.Ed. from UBC. She joined PEN to help make schools safe and welcoming for all students, especially those who identify as transgender.

Faune Johnson

Faune Johnson is a retired teacher, former GSA sponsor (2002-2008), member of PEN since 2002, facilitator for BCTF Social Justice workshops and parent workshops, member of writing team for Social Justice 12, proud supporter of human rights.

James Chamberlain

James Chamberlain has been an active member since 1991. He has taught Kindergarten to Grade 6 in Richmond, Vancouver and Surrey. James currently co-ordinates the LGBTQ, anti-racism and anti-poverty and programs for all schools in BC via the BCTF.

David Butler

David Butler is an “out” teacher and education activist who became involved in anti-homophobia activism in Halifax in the mid 90′s. He is a member of the BC Teachers’ Federation- Committee for Action on Social Justice. He believes in the importance of being an ally to other marginalized groups.

Myriam Dumont

Myriam Dumont is an elementary school teacher in Vancouver. She has been with PEN for three years and is also part of LGBTQ action group on the British Columbia’s Teachers Federation Committee for Action on Social Justice (CASJ). She also travels around the province giving workshops on a variety of social justice issues.
